In disasters, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Planning ahead of time is one of the great advantages of an individual. The following are the suggested plan of the Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition.
- dentify all the escape routes in your house or building. If an earthquake occurs, wait until the shaking stops and immediately leave the building. Plan two evacuation routes because some routes may be closed or blocked with the debris left by the disaster. Create a network with your neighbors, relatives or friends to help you in an emergency. PLANNING I
- MEDICATIONS
Organizing your medications into an easy and identifiable labels and containers is a must. Keep medications up to date or check expiry date. If possible, add extra prescription to be utilize for emergencies. - DOCUMENTS
Secure all the documents in zip lock bag or in any container that will keep it from being wet or any such. Make copies of all the documents and cards. You may also scan the documents and store it in a hard drive (USB). - REGISTER PHONES
If everything goes wrong, call for help. Though an emergency hotline is not frequently used in the Philippines or even in Sarangani, having someones phone number can be of great help when disaster and catastrophes attack. - REGISTER UTILITIES
In serious situations, when power outage occurs, those who are medically unstable or may need electrical support may need to seek assistance or to relocate to an evacuation center that has back-up power generator. - NOTIFY FIRST RESPONDERS
Notifying the local responders will prevent further damages or casualties. They may able to rescue and come immediately when they receive information and they were notified first. - PET SHELTER
Humans are not just the only one affected by the disasters, so does animals. When evacuating your house, planning for a safe haven for your pet will hopefully make them safe. - PROTECT PROPERTY
If you aren't sure whether your property is at risk from disasters and natural hazards, check with your local building official, city engineer, and planning or zoning administrator for informations and news. - SHARE INFO
Meet with your networks to share the dangers and risks of natural disasters and other catastrophes. Find safe areas for your homes and inform them about the individual emergency plan. Teach children about what's happening and be guided and instructed with news and updates - JMSE
